Group Description
Multi-disciplinary researchers working on all aspects of sustainable aviation fuels and their value chains.
We welcome members who are working on the following topics:
- Sustainable biofuels for aviation, including but not limited to:
- Next-generation bio-feedstocks: 2nd generation (energy crops, cellulosic biomass, agricultural and forestry residues, food and municipal waste), 3rd generation (algae), 4th generation (genetically modified organisms)
- Sustainability of bio-feedstocks for aviation, e.g. life-cycle assessment, triple-bottom-line analysis, valuing ecosystem services, impacts on biodiversity and the environment, food versus fuel, social impacts
- Other alternative aviation fuels, including but not limited to:
- Electrically powered planes
- Hydrogen for aviation
- E-fuels or synthetic fuels for aviation
- New infrastructure requirements and integration with energy networks
- Design of sustainable supply chains and/or value chains: techno-economic analysis or modelling and optimisation
- Market, regulatory and legal frameworks
- Studies comparing sustainable aviation to other forms of transport (e.g. flying versus rail)
- Operational issues, e.g. hub-and-spoke versus node-to-node
