There’s a news item here about ChatGPT being banned in Italy: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-65139406. It will be interesting to see what comes of this: whether other countries follow suit or whether it just blows over.

This is a very interesting TED talk. The founder of Khan Academy talks about how AI can revolutionise education. I think some of the use-cases for education can be applied to research. He emphasises the importance regulating AI to prevent negative use-cases, and focus on using it to enhance human intelligence, potential and purpose.

I always wondered how ChatGPT could be really useful for research when it’s essentially only using statistics on existing data, i.e. it is not really generating new knowledge. In this video, the creator of Wolfram Alpha talks about one possible way that ChatGPT could really generate new knowledge: by interfacing with Wolfram’s computational tools, it may be possible for AI to generate new knowledge by asking questions that haven’t been through of before and getting answers to them through computation engines.
