Functional Materials: Understanding the Chemistry and Physics of Solids
About this lesson

In this lecture we consider the interactions between electromagnetic radiation, X-rays in particular, and matter. We examine the elastic scattering of X-rays first by electrons and then by atoms. In the process we see the principles behind the polarization correction, and how the form factors that describe scattering by atoms change with atomic number and scattering angle.
