We start our exploration of the conductivity of materials with the Drude model. In this treatment the valence electrons are treated as an ideal gas and the principles of kinetic-molecular theory are applied. Concepts such as mobility, mean free path, and relaxation time are introduced. This lecture was designed and delivered by Patrick Woodward for use in the course Solid State Chemistry (Chem 7330) at Ohio State University.
